Softball Recap: Athens Comes Up Short

The matchup between Athens and Pleasant Plains on Tuesday hardly resembled the 1-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Warriors fell 13-8 to the Cardinals. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Warriors of the 1-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Jaci Derringer 2027 was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that she has brought in this season. Preslie Buckmaster 2027 was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Athens now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Pleasant Plains, their record now sits at 8-4-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Athens will face off against New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Pleasant Plains, they will take on Taylorville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
