Preview: Great Mills Hornets vs. Long Reach Lightning
The Great Mills Hornets will head out on the road to face off against the Long Reach Lightning at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Great Mills can now show off three landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Lackey 40-13 on the road. Great Mills didn't have much to brag about two games back, but this win makes it their second in a row.
Great Mills' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Donovan Bryan, who rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown, and Jameson Dyson, who threw for 146 yards and four touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes.
Meanwhile, Long Reach was able to grind out a solid victory over Wilde Lake on Saturday, taking the game 27-14.
The critical scores for Long Reach came from Jayden Thompson, Chase Hopkins, and Matthew Brown.
One reason for the win was Long Reach's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Leading the way was Jahir Hoilett and his two sacks.
Great Mills now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Long Reach, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.
