Softball Game Preview: Bartram Trail Bears vs. Menendez Falcons

Bartram Trail is 8-2 against Menendez since February of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Bartram Trail Bears will look to defend their home field against the Menendez Falcons at 7:00 p.m. Bartram Trail is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.

Bartram Trail took a 14-run loss the last time they faced off against Oakleaf, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Bartram Trail narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Oakleaf 4-2. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Bears as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Rommeney Patrey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on eight hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Bartram Trail's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Lucie McDonald, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, Menendez came up short against Ponte Vedra on Tuesday, falling 16-4. The Falcons haven't had much luck with the Sharks recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Menendez's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Bartram Trail, the victory also got them back to even at 3-3.

Bartram Trail's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's match. Bartram Trail has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Menendez, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Bartram Trail continue to outrun the ball?
