Baseball Recap: Cattaraugus-Little Valley Takes a Loss

Cattaraugus-Little Valley had lost three straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 1-9 to make it four. They came up short against the Ellicottville Eagles, falling 8-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Timberwolves of the 8-7 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Ellicottville, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win they have posted against Cattaraugus-Little Valley since June 18, 2021.

For Ellicottville's part, the result came thanks to Rylan Benjamin's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up nine Ks. Benjamin has become a key player for the Eagles: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most three hits, but 2-5 otherwise.

At the plate, AJ Myers and Blake Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Myers went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Smith got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs. Those two runs gave Smith a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker John, who went 4-for-5 with one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Ellicottville beat Cattaraugus-Little Valley by a score of 8-3 on Friday.
