Softball Recap: Newton Rams vs. Southwest DeKalb Panthers
It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Newton ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Southwest DeKalb Panthers 7-6. The win was some much needed relief for the Rams as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Zaikerryia Smith was excellent, scoring three runs while going 2-for-5. The team also got some help courtesy of Janiyah Henderson, who scored two runs while going 1-for-5.
Newton's victory bumped their record up to 4-12. As for Southwest DeKalb, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.
Newton will head out to square off against Rockdale County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
