Baseball Recap: Gompers Prep Academy Victorious

Gompers Prep Academy took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Bayfront Charter, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Eagles won by a run and slipped past the Sharks 6-5. For the Eagles, this counts as revenge for the 13-7 win the Sharks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Adam Mendoza and Marco M made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Mendoza pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, M didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. At bat, Mendoza scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3, while M scored two runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those three hits gave Mendoza a new career-high.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Angel Yanez, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.

Gompers Prep Academy's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Bayfront Charter, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Coming up, Gompers Prep Academy will square off against High Tech NC at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Raptor have averaged an impressive 10 runs per game this season. As for Bayfront Charter, they will take on Chula Vista Learning Community Charter at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.
