Preview: Maiden Blue Devils vs. Salisbury Hornets
Maiden has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Salisbury Hornets at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
With a playoff game on the line, Maiden rose to the challenge on Friday. They came out on top against East Gaston by a score of 31-21.
Josh Stover was his usual excellent self, rushing for 78 yards and two touchdowns, while also throwing for 200 yards and a touchdown on only 19 passes. Stover has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last three times he's played. Raheim Misher did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 89 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Salisbury can now show off ten landslide victories after their most recent contest on Friday. They blew past East Davidson 55-21 at home. 55 seems to be a good number for Salisbury as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Salisbury relied on the efforts of Mike Geter, who rushed for 25 yards and two touchdowns, and Jamal Rule, who gained 200 total yards and three touchdowns. Rule is absolutely dominating the rushing yard category: he's posted at least 100 every time he's taken the field this season.
Maiden pushed their record up to 8-3 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 32.5 points per game. As for Salisbury, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.
Maiden was able to grind out a solid win over Salisbury when the teams last played back in November of 2021, winning 32-20. Will Maiden repeat their success, or does Salisbury have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
