Basketball Recap: Marisiya Goins' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Manchester Township over Toms River North

Manchester Township was the 73-55 winner over Toms River North when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Manchester Township Hawks fell just short of the Toms River North Mariners by a score of 40-37 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Hawks have suffered since February 8, 2024.

Several Hawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Marisiya Goins, who posted nine points and six steals. The dominant performance gave Goins a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Madeline Nolan, who put up ten points and five steals.

Even though they lost, Manchester Township smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in six consecutive matches.

The loss snapped Manchester Township's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-6 record. As for Toms River North, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Manchester Township will head out to square off against Ocean Township at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for Toms River North, they will square off against Donovan Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
