Hoopeston took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Milford, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cornjerkers skirted past the Bearcats 8-7. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Maddie Barnes made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). Barnes was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Peyton Irons was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Khloe Brewer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
Hoopeston was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Hoopeston's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 5-7. As for Milford, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-6 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hoopeston will face off against Donovan at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Milford, they will take on Momence at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bearcats are facing the Momence Athletics at the right time seeing as the Momence Athletics are stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
