Softball Recap: West Franklin Drops Highest Score of Season Against Mission Valley

West Franklin extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 1-3 in the process. They fell 18-14 to the Mission Valley Vikings. On the bright side, the 14- run effort marked the Falcons' highest-scoring game to date.

Zoe Dowd and Rylee Smith did some serious damage despite the final result: Dowd went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and two RBI, while Smith went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that Dowd has launched this season. Baylie Hajney was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

As for Mission Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games.

On Mission Valley's side, Kyplee Jacobson was a standout: she went 5-for-6 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those five hits gave Jacobson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Adaline Bloomfield, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Coincidentally, West Franklin and Mission Valley will both be playing Osage City the next time they take the field. The Vikings will host the Indians at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Falcons will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on May 8.
