Preseason MaxPreps Top 25 high school basketball rankings: Players to watch, storylines for No. 9 Paul VI

Trevor Keels-led Panthers looks to capture first conference title since 2013-14.

Paul VI (Fairfax, Va.) begins the season as favorites to capture the program's first Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championship since 2013-14 with a strong returning core led by an elite backcourt of high-major prospects.

The talented Panthers rotation has a balance of experience and youth as four players who started for coach Glenn Farello at some point last season return to the WCAC powerhouse.

Trevor Keels is expected to be the go-to scorer this season, while Dug McDaniel will again orchestrate the offense from the point. Top 50 sophomore prospect DeShawn Harris-Smith and talented newcomer Kris Mickens join Keels and McDaniel in the backcourt.

Paul VI will rely on frontcourt returners Tyler Coleman and Jack Jensen along with highly-regarded freshman prospect Garrett Sundra.

Paul VI ended the year outside the MaxPreps Top 25 at No. 29 after a 27-8 season. This battle-tested group should be ready for the rigors of one of the nation's most difficult conference schedules.
