Baseball Recap: Columbus Takes a Loss

Columbus had lost six straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 9-16 to make it seven. They fell just short of the Omaha North Vikings by a score of 5-3. The Discoverers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vikings apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Brayden Cooney was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.2 innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April.

At the plate, Jack Holys made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Columbus' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 6-15 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Kashton Urkoski, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.

As for Omaha North, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-13. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.

On Omaha North's side, Colin Kinman was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs.

As of now, neither Columbus nor the Vikings have any future games scheduled.
