Softball Game Preview: Phoenix Pirates vs. Eagle Point Eagles

Phoenix is 0-4 against Eagle Point since April of 2015 but things could change on Tuesday. Phoenix will challenge Eagle Point at 4:30 p.m. Phoenix will be strutting in after a win while Eagle Point will be coming in after a loss.

Phoenix will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Friday, then bounced right back against Brookings-Harbor on Saturday. Phoenix put the hurt on Brookings-Harbor with a sharp 16-9 victory. The Pirates not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 16, 2024.

Rylei Rivero was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Rivero was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Phoenix got a massive performance out of Carsyn Sousa, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5. Rylie Johnson was another key player, scoring a run and stealing five bases while going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 13 runs the game before, Eagle Point was a bit more limited in their match on Tuesday. They came up short against Henley, falling 13-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Eagles were not able to get on the board.

Eagle Point saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Allison Martin, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.

Phoenix's win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-1. As for Eagle Point, they dropped their record down to 2-4 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Phoenix might still be hurting after the 10-3 loss they got from Eagle Point in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Phoenix avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
