Soccer Game Preview: Mt. Zion vs. Centennial

The Mt. Zion Braves will challenge the Centennial Chargers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Centennial will be up against a hot Mt. Zion squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. The Braves' defense stepped up to hand Charleston a 9-0 shutout on Tuesday. Given Mt. Zion's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 127th, while Charleston are ranked 314th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Centennial made easy work of Danville on Tuesday and carried off a 7-0 victory. It was an even better day for Alicia Fernandez as she scored three goals for her team.

Centennial is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 15 goals over those four contests. As for Mt. Zion, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-4.
