Softball Recap: Ludington Orioles vs. Hart Pirates
Ludington had lost 16 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 1-10 to make it 17. They fell 10-6 to the Hart Pirates. If the Orioles were looking for revenge after losing 9-0 to the Pirates when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
As for Hart, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games.
For Hart's part, Kelsey Copenhaver made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Copenhaver has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Caydence Bateson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Makenna Carrier was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with six stolen bases and three runs.
While Ludington had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
