Marysville and Wheatland are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. The Indians will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pirates at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Marysville has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with four straight losses, while Wheatland will come in with nine straight wins.
Marysville came up short against Bear River on Thursday, falling 15-4.
Emma Mallen made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Haliegh Russell was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Wheatland got the win against Colfax on Thursday by a conclusive 16-2. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won 11 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Chasidy Sills made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ella Woolery, who fired off two home runs, eight RBI, and one stolen base while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sophia Logan, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Wheatland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in 13 consecutive contests.
Wheatland pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Marysville, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-14.
