Carson is 1-9 against Reed since March of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Senators will challenge the Raiders at 9:00 a.m. Reed took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Carson, who comes in off a win.
Carson is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: McQueen, who was ranked 14th at the time (Carson was ranked 23rd). The Senators walked away with a 10-5 win over the Lancers on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Senators considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Madison Blanchard-Salazar spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits.
At the plate, Sofia Morrison and Cali Stagliano did most of the damage at the plate: Morrison went 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI, while Stagliano went 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Stagliano has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Rhys Branham, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Carson lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. They are 3-1 when they post two or more home runs.
Meanwhile, Reed unfortunately witnessed the end of their 14-game winning streak on Thursday. They came up short against Bishop Manogue, falling 7-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Raiders have suffered since April 13, 2024.
Tiare Kanae was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Carson's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-10-1. As for Reed, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 9-1 and their overall record down to 20-4-1.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Carson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .355. However, it's not like Reed struggles in that department as they've averaged .375. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Carson couldn't quite get it done against Reed when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-0. Can the Senators avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
