Basketball Recap: Martinsville Comes Up Short

Martinsville lost against Whiteland back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Martinsville Artesians took a 53-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Whiteland Warriors. The Artesians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Martinsville still got an impressive performance from Ruby Murrell, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine boards. Layla Mallery was another key player, putting up five points and five assists.

Whiteland's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sam Roadruck, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 16 points. That's the most points Roadruck has posted since back in November of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryanna Gillock, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards.

Martinsville's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Whiteland, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Martinsville will venture away from home to face off against Center Grove at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Whiteland, they will head out to square off against Indian Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Indian Creek will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Whiteland surely won't give up without a fight.
