Basketball Recap: Oxford Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Oxford took on Bluestem on Monday. The Oxford Wildcats fell 39-28 to the Bluestem Lions. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 58-44 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, Oxford still got an impressive performance from Makhila Maupin, who went 5-for-10 to rack up 18 points and six rebounds.

Oxford's loss dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Bluestem, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7-1 record this season.

Looking ahead, Oxford won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Caldwell at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Oxford is facing Caldwell at the right time seeing as Caldwell is stuck on a four-game losing streak. Bluestem has already played their next matchup (against Humboldt), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
