Basketball Game Preview: Decatur Community Red Devils vs. Oakley Plainsmen

The Decatur Community Red Devils will challenge the Oakley Plainsmen at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Decatur Community is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Logan/Palco, posting a 68-20 win. The victory was familiar territory for the Red Devils who have now won three matches in a row.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Oakley, who bounced back after a loss on the road back in December of 2024. They walked away with a 55-42 win over Smith Center two weeks ago.

Oakley found their leader in freshman Alexa Weiser, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Weiser has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Chesney Marshall, who posted 14 points and five boards.

Oakley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 27 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Decatur Community's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Oakley, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.

Decatur Community came up short against Oakley when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 40-31. Can Decatur Community avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
