Basketball Recap: Nucla Mustangs vs. Ridgway Demons
Nucla has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 51-48 heartbreaker at the hands of the Ridgway Demons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Demons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 65-58 back in January.

Despite the loss, Nucla still got an impressive performance from Brycen Rummel, who went 10-for-20 en route to 26 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Rummel has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 35 times he's played. Slade Gillen was another key player, putting up four points in addition to ten boards and three blocks.
Ridgway's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Patrick Megahee, who went 6-for-15 to rack up 15 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Megahee continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Henry Deppen, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten boards.
Nucla's defeat dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Ridgway, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season.
Nucla didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 58-50 win against Dolores on the 18th. As for Ridgway, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 77-63 victory against Ouray on the 13th.
