Softball Recap: River Ridge Timberwolves vs. Lancaster Flying Arrows
River Ridge was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell 8-4 to the Lancaster Flying Arrows. The result was an unpleasant reminder to River Ridge of the 19-6 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.
River Ridge saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ellaina Gage, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Even though they lost, River Ridge didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with nine strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lancaster only tossed five.
On Lancaster's side, Maddy Hill was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Hill has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive pitching appearances. Hill was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Abi Mergen was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Amelia Johnsen, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and a triple.
River Ridge's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Lancaster, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-1.
River Ridge will be playing at home against Potosi/Cassville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lancaster, they will head out on the road to face off against Platteville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lancaster is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
