Basketball Game Preview: Belton Tigers vs. University Trojans

Belton and University are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2014, but not for long. The Belton Tigers will host the University Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

On Wednesday, Belton strolled past Lake Belton with points to spare, taking the game 73-59. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 104th, while the Broncos are ranked 556th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, University had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 58-55 victory over the Bobcats. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Trojans have posted since February 23, 2024.

Belton pushed their record up to 23-5 with the victory, which was their 11th straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.1 points per game. As for University, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season.

Belton won a match that couldn't have been any closer when the teams last played back in January of 2024, slipping by University 58-57. Will Belton repeat their success, or does University have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
