Softball Game Preview: North Pitt Panthers vs. SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars

A feisty cat fight will be fought as North Pitt Panthers face off against SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. North Pitt has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with three straight losses, while SouthWest Edgecombe will come in with four straight wins.

North Pitt fell victim to North Lenoir and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Hawks, falling 17-0.

Meanwhile, SouthWest Edgecombe got the win against North Pitt on Tuesday by a conclusive 16-1. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by 15 runs or more this season.

Mackenzie Rogers made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mckenlee Mobley, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March of 2024. Mackenzie Moore was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

SouthWest Edgecombe always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

SouthWest Edgecombe pushed their record up to 5-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for North Pitt, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.
