Baseball Game Preview: Hopkins Academy Golden Hawks vs. McCann Tech Hornets

The Hopkins Academy Golden Hawks will face off against the McCann Tech Hornets at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopkins Academy will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Hopkins Academy and Easthampton/Hampshire have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Thursday. The Golden Hawks came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 4-1.

Meanwhile, McCann Tech owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Monday. They blew past Lee 9-0. That nine run margin sets a new team best for the Hornets this season.

Hayden Barrett was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. Barrett was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That hit marked the first that he has got this season.

In other batting news, Kolton Buck and Lukas Rylander did most of the damage at the plate: Buck went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one stolen base, while Rylander got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one triple and one stolen base. That hit was Buck's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Zach Howland, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Hopkins Academy's win bumped their record up to 8-4. As for McCann Tech, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.

Hopkins Academy beat McCann Tech 6-3 when the teams last played back in June of 2023. Do the Golden Hawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
