Baseball Game Preview: Lyford Bulldogs vs. Grulla Gators

The Lyford Bulldogs will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Grulla Gators at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Lyford is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.

Lyford picked up another tournament win on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over Freer.

Deveric Trevino looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Diego Medina and Gael Silva did most of the damage at the plate: Medina went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Silva scored a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, Silva posted two hits, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jacob Reyna, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Lyford was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Grulla came up short against Weslaco East last Thursday and fell 6-1.

Lyford's victory bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Grulla, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
