After only two runs in their last matchup, Western made sure to put some runs up on the board against Cimarron-Memorial on Friday. The Warriors put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 10-1 win. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by seven runs or more this season.

Edgar Garcia made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Western's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 3-7 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Leonel Gonzalez, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Western is undefeated when Gonzalez posts two or more runs, but 3-7 otherwise. Gio Urena was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Western kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory got Western back to even at 7-7. As for Cimarron-Memorial, they dropped their record down to 3-12 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Western will head out to challenge Rancho at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Cimarron-Memorial, they will be playing at home against Doral Academy Red Rock at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dragons have averaged an impressive 11.9 runs per game this season.
