Baseball Game Preview: Sycamore Spartans vs. Rochelle Hubs

For the first time this season, Sycamore will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will host the Rochelle Hubs at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Sycamore is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Belvidere on Saturday as they made off with an 18-3 win. With that victory, the Spartans brought their scoring average up to 6.9 runs per game.

The team relied heavily on Davis Collie, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. Sycamore is undefeated when Collie posts three or more RBI, but 2-4 otherwise. Tyler Lojko was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Sycamore always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .658. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Rochelle hadn't beaten Streator on the road since April 8, 2017 but that history sure didn't bother them on Saturday. The Hubs were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Bulldogs. The match marked the Hubs' most dominant win of the season so far.

Rochelle's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Sycamore, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Sycamore took their win against Rochelle in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 8-1 score. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hubs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
