Softball Game Preview: Scott Eagles vs. Scott County Cardinals

The Scott Eagles will hit the road for the first time this season to square off against the Scott County Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Scott took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Cooper, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Scott had just enough and edged out Cooper 14-13 on Monday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Eagles as it put an end to their five-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Scott let Ashlyn Riley and Elise Manhardt run wild. Riley scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Manhardt scored three runs while going 2-for-5. That's the most runs Manhardt has posted since back in March of 2024. Katie Fraley was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Scott County put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victor by a 14-0 margin over Henry Clay. The Cardinals' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three matches.

Mackenzie Leidecker was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those hits were her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Hadley Swint, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4.

Scott County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Scott County's record now sits at 4-0. As for Scott, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Scott came up short against Scott County in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 8-3. Can Scott avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
