Baseball Game Preview: Morgantown Mohigans vs. Wheeling Park Patriots

For the second straight game, Morgantown will face off against Wheeling Park. The Mohigans will welcome the Patriots at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Morgantown's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Wheeling Park's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Morgantown is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: Wheeling Park, who was ranked seventh at the time (Morgantown was ranked fourth). The Mohigans had just enough and edged out the Patriots 5-3. Surprisingly, this marked the Mohigans' third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Vincent Aloi spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mason Bowers, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Morgantown is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 16 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Wheeling Park, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 24-11.
