Baseball Game Preview: Capital Jaguars vs. St. Michael's Horsemen

The Capital Jaguars will challenge the St. Michael's Horsemen at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

Capital was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Gallup on Saturday. Capital put the hurt on Gallup with a sharp 8-2 win. The Jaguars haven't had any issues with the Bengals recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, St. Michael's hadn't done well against Santa Fe recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. St. Michael's blew past Santa Fe 13-7. The result was nothing new for the Horsemen, who have now won four contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Santiago Martinez and Luca Martini made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Martinez tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Martini pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Martinez scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while Martini scored a run while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Michael Giesler was incredible, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Chris Chavez was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

St. Michael's win bumped their record up to 8-4. As for Capital, their victory bumped their record up to 8-6.

Capital came out on top in a nail-biter against St. Michael's when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. Will Capital repeat their success, or does St. Michael's has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
