Softball Preview: Moses Brown Quakers vs. Pilgrim Patriots
The Moses Brown Quakers will be playing at home against the Pilgrim Patriots at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Moses Brown beat East Providence 8-3. The victory was just what Moses Brown needed coming off of a 10-0 loss in their prior match.
Anna Costello and Coco Medeiros made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Costello struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off only one hit. Meanwhile, Medeiros pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (she also didn't allow any walks). At bat, Costello scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Medeiros scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Julianna Masse was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Pilgrim never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They put the hurt on East Providence with a sharp 12-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Pilgrim.
Not much got past Gretchen Dombeck, who gave up just five hits to keep East Providence off the board. Dombeck has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't pitched less than five innings every time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Skylar Hawes was incredible, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Tuirok, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
The victory got Moses Brown back to even at 1-1. As for Pilgrim, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Moses Brown came up short against Pilgrim when the teams last played back in May of 2023, falling 6-1. Thankfully for Moses Brown, Alyssa Twomey (who struck out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit) won't be suiting up this time.
