Soccer Recap: Cathedral Takes a Loss

There was early excitement for Cathedral after they claimed the first goal on Wednesday, however, they wouldn't score again. They fell just short of the Bishop Amat Lancers by a score of 2-1. The Phantoms were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lancers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Cathedral's lineup was just a bit different on Wednesday as Angel Sandres got a bit more time on the pitch (70 vs. his season average of 42.2). Sandres made the most of the opportunity, scoring a goal A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.

Cathedral's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3-2. As for Bishop Amat, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 16-1-2.

Cathedral and Bishop Amat should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Cathedral will challenge St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Friday up 277 places (38 vs. 315). Similarly, Bishop Amat (ranked 15th) will meet Salesian (ranked 300th) at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
