Softball Recap: Hicks Starts off Right with Win over Converse

Hicks had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They put the hurt on the Converse Wildcats with a sharp 14-1 win on Friday. For the Pirates, this counts as revenge for the 11-9 victory the Wildcats walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Courtlyn Dousay made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Dousay was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Abby Addison and Peyton Lambright did most of the damage at the plate: Addison scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2, while Lambright scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Jayde Wilbanks was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple and two RBI.

Hicks wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 0-0 draw against Glenmora on the 22nd. As for Converse, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 7-6 defeat against Parkway on the 22nd.
