Baseball Recap: Windham Takes a Loss

Windham had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 1-8 to make it ten. They came up short against the Stonington Bears, falling 20-2. If the Whippets were looking for revenge after losing 10-4 to the Bears when the teams met back in May of 2022, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Stonington, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games.

For Stonington's part, Jace Wolfradt made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. Wolfradt has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those two triples gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Finn Eck, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and four RBI. Those two triples gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Schrage, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Windham will take on Wheeler at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Stonington, they will square off against Plainfield at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed ten runs per game on average), something the Bears will no doubt try to take advantage of.
