Basketball Recap: Calaveras Starts Season with Victory Against Waterford

Calaveras had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past the Waterford Wildcats 62-41 on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Red Hawks in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won four in a row.

Calaveras' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Aaron Koepp led the charge by shooting 45% from the field on his way to 15 points in addition to seven assists and three steals. Another player making a difference was Connor Fuller, who went 7-for-12 to rack up 19 points and six boards.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Calaveras was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They racked up six more assists than Waterford's also-impressive total of 12.

When it comes to explaining why Waterford lost, don't look at Matthew Martinez. Despite the final result, he posted nine points. Izaiah Sanchez was another key player, putting up six points and five rebounds.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Calaveras will look to takes advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they takes on Amador at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Waterford, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Oakdale at 7:00 p.m. on December 2.
