It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Hardin-Jefferson had no problem doing just that on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past the Bridge City Cardinals 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Hawks have posted since April 11th.

Ryan Samoff was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Maddox Harrod, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.

Hardin-Jefferson lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in March of 2024.

Hardin-Jefferson is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 17-14-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Bridge City, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 22-6-1.

Hardin-Jefferson will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Cardinals: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
