Basketball Recap: Mica Mountain Skates Past Buena with Ease

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Salpointe Catholic, Mica Mountain was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They blew past the Buena Colts, posting a 64-33 victory. Given the Thunderbolts' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while the Colts are ranked 146th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mica Mountain was led to victory by Kayley Sutton and Isabella Webb. Sutton went 7 of 10 en route to 16 points and three steals, while Webb went 6 for 9 on her way to 14 points and five boards. That's the most steals Sutton has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Amaris Biancuzzo, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.

Loss or not, Buena got some senior leadership from Areli Encinas and Andrea Alarcon. Encinas posted six points and three steals, while Alarcon had six points.

Mica Mountain's win bumped their record up to 17-7. As for Buena, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season.

Mica Mountain will be playing in front of their home fans against Walden Grove at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Buena, they are taking a road trip to challenge Pueblo at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pueblo is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.9 points per game this season.
