Softball Recap: Pen Argyl Comes Up Short

Pen Argyl fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Stroudsburg on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mountaineers by a score of 6-5. The Green Knights haven't had much luck with the Mountaineers recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Jillian Bradley was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out 17 batters over 7.1 innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Bradley wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Abby Scherer, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Pen Argyl's defeat dropped their record down to 11-4. As for Stroudsburg, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season.

Pen Argyl will challenge Northwestern Lehigh at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Stroudsburg, they will venture away from home to challenge Freedom at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
