Preview: Oakmont Vikings vs. Placer Hillmen
Oakmont is 0-4 against Placer since October of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Oakmont Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Placer Hillmen at 7:30 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Oakmont has struggled recently with nine defeats in a row, while Placer will arrive with five straight wins.
Last Friday, Oakmont was beaten by Nevada Union 45-7. Oakmont was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-0.
Meanwhile, Placer didn't have too much trouble with West Park at home on Friday as they won 35-21. 35 seems to be a good number for Placer as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Shaun Jones was the offensive standout of the contest as he rushed for 222 yards and two touchdowns. Placer also got a significant boost from Baylor Kelley, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 109 yards.
Oakmont's loss was their ninth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 0-9. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 10.7 points per game. As for Placer, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Oakmont has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 172.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Placer struggles in that department as they've been even better at 281.6 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Oakmont took a serious blow against Placer in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, falling 49-0. Can Oakmont avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
