Football Recap: Jefferson Davis Academy Raiders vs. Providence Athletic Club Panthers
Jefferson Davis Academy had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They had to suffer through a 38-8 loss at the hands of the Providence Athletic Club Panthers. If the Raiders were looking for revenge after losing 32-14 to the Panthers when the teams met back in August of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Providence Athletic Club's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gage Taylor, who rushed for 72 yards and one score. Taylor also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making seven total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defending one pass in addition to snagging an interception which he returned one-yard for a touchdown. Another rusher making a difference was Josh Williams, who rushed for 63 yards and one touchdown.
The win was the ninth in a row (dating back to last season) for Providence Athletic Club, bringing their record up to 2-0.
Jefferson Davis Academy has already played their next matchup, a 52-6 victory against Cross on the 22nd. As for Providence Athletic Club, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 50-21 win against Holy Spirit Prep on the 22nd.
