Baseball Recap: Azusa Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Azusa). Everything went their way against the Sierra Vista Dons on Thursday as they made off with a 13-4 win. The Aztecs not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 7, 2024.

Aidan Sanchez made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Azusa got a massive performance out of Anthony Quezada, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Matt Huizar, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1.

Azusa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Azusa's victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-6. As for Sierra Vista, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.
