Basketball Recap: Martin County Takes a Loss

After flying high against Pamlico County last Thursday, Martin County came back down to earth. The Martin County Gators were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 61-60 to the Tarboro Vikings. The Gators were not able to make up for their loss to the Vikings from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Martin County had strong showings from Kamarion Larry, who posted 12 points, and Jordan Matthewson, who put up seven points and eight rebounds. Matthewson is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played.

With the loss, Martin County broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-3. As for Tarboro, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

Martin County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 77-70 win against Bertie on the 7th. As for Tarboro, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 81-50 victory against North Edgecombe on the 4th.
