1A District 3 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Holmes County extended the longest winning streak in 1A District 3 this week by beating Bozeman, 39-20. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Blue Devils.
Holmes County moved up to 147 from 182 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Blue Devils climbed the ranks as a result of a 39-20 win over the Bucks.
Holmes County's dynamic duo of JR. Miles and Ty Russ proved tough for Bozeman to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Miles threw for 193 yards and two touchdowns and Russ had 94 yards receiving. Franklin Russ helped Holmes County's passing attack out by catching two balls for 53 yards.
Jacob Martinez was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 136 yards on 16 carries as William Tillman's team beat William Tillman's team. James Jernigan also contributed to the rushing game with 22 yards on the ground.
Holmes County's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Blue Devils feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Miles has thrown for 659 yards and seven touchdowns this season, while Russ has 13 catches for 384 yards. Kodi Russ leads the league in rushing with 458 yards.
The Bucks made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,638 from 6,435. The advance stemmed from a 39-20 victory over Bozeman last week.
