Preview: Millington Central Trojans vs. Haywood Tomcats

The Millington Central Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the Haywood Tomcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Millington Central had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They secured a 38-34 W over Crockett County on Friday. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Millington Central's ten-point performance the game before.

McCoy Pugh had a dynamite game for Millington Central, rushing for 211 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.8 yards per carry, and also throwing for 128 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 passes. Pugh was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 60 yards. Jyshawn Anderson also helped out with an impressive 109 receiving yards.

Meanwhile, Haywood waltzed into Friday's game with two straight wins but they left with three. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Kirby 44-6 at home. The result was nothing new for Haywood, who have now won six games by 20 points or more so far this season.

Camarion Miller continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 85 yards and a touchdown on only six carries, while also picking up 42 receiving yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Kemonte Williams, who rushed for 42 yards and two touchdowns.

Millington Central pushed their record up to 9-2 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 32.8 points per game. As for Haywood, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.

Millington Central was dealt a bruising 55-0 loss at the hands of Haywood when the teams last played back in November of 2017. Thankfully for Millington Central, Decourtney Reed (who rushed for 171 yards and four touchdowns on only ten carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
