Basketball Recap: Mount Pleasant Extends Winning Streak to Five

Mount Pleasant waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came out on top against the Union Academy Cardinals by a score of 57-47. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 76-51 win last Tuesday.

Despite the loss, Union Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lloyd Barnes went 7-for-13 on his way to 17 points and eight boards. That's the most points Barnes has posted since back in December of 2024. Heath Lunsford was another key player, putting up seven points.

Mount Pleasant's victory bumped their record up to 16-8. As for Union Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-10 record this season.

Mount Pleasant didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-31 win against North Stanly on the 21st. As for Union Academy, they are taking a road trip to challenge Queen's Grant at 7:30 p.m. on February 25th. Queen's Grant will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Union Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
