Softball Recap: Cooperstown Victorious

Cooperstown posted their closest win since April 7th on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Cincinnatus Central Lions 4-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Hawkeyes.

Emerson Lippitt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Grace Sperry and Katie Crippen did most of the damage at the plate: Sperry went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Crippen went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. Sperry is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games she's played.

Cooperstown pushed their record up to 12-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Cincinnatus Central, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-4.

Cooperstown has already played their next contest, a 4-0 loss against Port Byron on the 26th. Cincinnatus Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
