Softball Recap: Edgewood Extends Winning Streak to Four

Edgewood extended their winning streak to four on Friday, bumping their season record up to 19-5 in the process. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the North Putnam Cougars. The Mustangs have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Cougars, too.

ALLY BLAND was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 17 batters over nine innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 19 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

BLAND wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was LIZZY AUSTIN, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double. ELLA SPROUL was another, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

As for North Putnam, their loss dropped their record down to 13-7. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On North Putnam's side, Tori Detro spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 14 Ks.

Edgewood and North Putnam are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Mustangs will challenge Indianapolis Washington at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. As for North Putnam, they will take on South Putnam at 12:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cougars 2.8, the Eagles 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
