Softball Recap: Cleveland Takes a Loss

Cleveland extended their losing streak to 15 on Monday, dropping their season record down to 2-19 in the process. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chatsworth Chancellors. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 28, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Cleveland saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jessica Van Zyl, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

As for Chatsworth, they moved to 6-16 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak. The game was the first time they have beaten Cleveland on their field since April 1, 2022.

On Chatsworth's side, Sammy Roldan made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Roldan a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one double.

In other batting news, Izellah Saldate-Gomez and Lila Mashhoud did most of the damage at the plate: Saldate-Gomez went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base, while Mashhoud went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI Mashhoud has posted since back in March.

Cleveland didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 5-0 defeat against Taft on the 14th. As for Chatsworth, they have also already played their next match, a 12-0 loss against Granada Hills Charter on the 14th.
