Preview: Meadowbrook Academy Mustangs vs. Oak Hall Eagles
Meadowbrook Academy has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Oak Hall Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Meadowbrook Academy walked away with it. They claimed a resounding 72-43 win over the Minutemen at home. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 45-19.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Meadowbrook Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tico Smith, who scored 31 points along with two steals. Smith is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last 20 games he's played. Gaige Daugherty was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, Oak Hall came tearing into Thursday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 62-34 victory over Keystone Heights. Given Oak Hall's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 249th, while Keystone Heights is ranked 532nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meadowbrook Academy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. As for Oak Hall, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-5.
Meadowbrook Academy took a serious blow against Oak Hall in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, falling 65-30. Can Meadowbrook Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
